MEDIA
TRAINING FOR SCIENTIFIC & TECHNICAL
PEOPLE
Most people involved with
media training know that scientific and technical people
can have trouble in communicating their messages to the
public. They are in expert fields and can "talk the
talk" without realising that the general public will not
necessarily understand that talk. It's all about remembering
your audience.
Kelly Communications media
training really concentrates on the use of powerful, simple
language to convey messages. When we have scientific or
technical people in a workshop we go to even greater lengths to
ensure they do remember who they're talking to and that the
language they're using is appropriate.
We have our own City Square
Rule - stop 10 people at random and ask them if they know what
that word means - to get participants to understand that
complex language will not work when communicating with the
general public via the media.
We also note that this training is often taken
back and used by our workshop attendees in house, with
remarkable results reported for extra clarity and
communication success.
